Student services offered by the Multicultural Affairs office include: academic advising, student advocacy, tutoring referrals, and general assistance for students academically at risk (4S Programs - Select Support Student Services). The MA Office strives to help students adjust to college life and appreciate the cultural richness of the campus and thereby promote a sense of community.
The Study Clinic program was launched in 1999 with a state grant to compliment the tutoring services provided by the Student Success Center. Concentrated lunchtime and weekend review sessions are conducted by the appropriate faculty members. Study Clinics address specific areas of weakness for studio and liberal arts courses.
In an effort to establish CCS as a premier school for drawing, free figure drawing clinics are provided on designated Saturdays for all registered CCS students, faculty and alumni. Those in attendance have the option of working in their sketchbooks, completing class assignments or just working to improve their figure rendering skills. As an open drawing session, instruction is available, upon the student's request, from the MA director or any other faculty member in attendance.
M.S.C. & B.A.R.T.
M.S.C. (Multicultural Student Collective)
The Multicultural Student Collective is designed to be a committee of students working closely with faculty and staff to develop culturally diverse programming for the student body. By including selected students in the development process, this initiative becomes more student-focused. The involvement of faculty and staff establishes a solid institutional connection. Throughout the school year the entire student population will be introduced to a series of events orchestrated by the Collective that showcase the contributions of minorities in art and design. From workshops conducted by guest artists and designers to exhibitions featuring the works of CCS students of color, programs will highlight minority involvement in all the disciplines represented at CCS.
B.A.R.T. (Black Artists Researching Trends)
B.A.R.T. is a nonprofit student organization that was founded in 1984. It was originally organized to bring together minority students who share common concerns and interest. Over the years B.A.R.T. has evolved into a more inclusive organization, avoiding the stigma of exclusivity and thereby encouraging cultural inclusion.
These groups and other affiliates often come together to provide various activities and programs, offering networking and community service opportunities.
Joining a student organization can offer social and academic resources, where students establish relationships with peers and encourage one another to succeed.
To join one of these groups or for information on starting a student group, please contact the MA office.
