The Student Success Center is a user friendly environment staffed by a learning specialist and peer tutors. All of the services are free and provide every student with the possibility to boost classroom performance, build learning strategies, hone study and writing skills and develop confidence.
The Success Center’s most popular service is the one-on-one tutorial assistance in all courses offered at CCS. Tutorials are tailored to each individual’s learning style and academic needs. This individual approach often results in reduced student stress, improved productivity and better grades.
Available to every student, writing assistance is available for any type of assignment: research papers, essays, artist’s statements, senior theses, resumes, etc.
The Writing Studio, staffed by English and literature professors, provides highly interactive assistance to students at every level of the writing process from brainstorming topic ideas and sharpening grammar to honing organizational, critical thinking and editing skills.
The Student Success Center is a fully equipped computer lab with Windows and Mac OS computers as well as two scanners. Software available includes Maya, Alias, Illustrator, Photoshop and Flash. Students can work on their own or one-on-one with a peer tutor.
In addition to the one-on-one tutoring and writing assistance, international students can find assistance with text interpretation as well as participate in conversation groups to help sharpen English speaking skills.
Students with learning challenges will discover a variety of supplementary services that will enhance productivity and reduce stress. Time management schedules and project planning are individually designed for each student and are monitored and adjusted to accommodate changing needs. A variety of learning styles are accommodated and personal strategies developed to improve student performance.
Student Success Seminars are provided for conditionally admitted students, and probationary students are encouraged to schedule visits to the Success Center throughout the semester.
